pilesofnonsense: (RQGEx)

Welcome to the second Rusty Quill Gaming Exchange! We hope you enjoy participating.

This is a fanworks exchange, open to both fanart and fanfic. If you've participated in other exchanges before, you'll know how they work - if not, briefly, you sign up with a list of characters that you are willing to create for, and a list of characters you'd like to receive works for. You'll be matched to someone else, and create a work based on their request. Everyone gets to create something, and everyone gets a gift.

Please note that this event requires an AO3 account to participate - if you do not have one, please request one via the Log In option, or contact the mods.

Schedule for 2020

  • Nominations: 13th March 23.00 - 20th March 23.00 GMT
  • Sign-Ups: 20th March 23.00 - 28th March 23.00 GMT
  • Assignments Due: by 25th April 23.00 BST
  • Works Revealed: 2nd May 23.00 BST
  • Authors Revealed:9th May 23.00 BST

The UK is changing timezones during this exchange, from GMT to BST, when the clocks go forward one hour (BST is GMT+1).

How It Works
This exchange has several parts:

Nominations

  • During nominations you may add characters to the tagset (14th March - 20th March). The tagset is later used for sign-ups during the exchange. If characters are not added during the nominations period, you will not be able to request or offer them later.
  • You may nominate up to seven characters for RQG - characters nominated for other fandoms will not be approved.
  • The tagset can be seen by following the link from our profile.

Sign-Ups

  • During sign-ups you can fill out the form with your requests and offers.
  • Sign-ups must contain 1 offer and 1 request as a minimum and may contain a maximum of 4 of each.

Requests

  • Each request must contain a minimum of two characters and one medium (fic and/or art).
  • You may request all characters within the tagset, but be sure you really mean all.
  • Each request must contain a different combination of characters. (e.g. Request 1 is Sasha Rackett, Zolf Smith. Request 2 is Sasha Rackett, Azu. Request 3 is Azu, Zolf Smith). You can also choose to select request Any. This does not mean that your assigned person has to create something containing all characters in the tagset, but that they can choose which ones they wish to write for.
  • You can specify whether you would like to receive either fanfic, fanart, or either. If you select both options you are only guaranteed one medium, not both.
  • This year, we are only offering single characters as tags - you can indicate in your description box or letter whether you would prefer these characters to be in platonic or romantic relationships, though you are not guaranteed to receive a romantic preference.
  • If you are under 18, please do not request works which would have a Mature or Explicit rating.
  • Do Not Wants (DNW) must be included in your sign-up on AO3. Mods will not enforce DNW posted to other sites (e.g. letters on Dreamwidth, Tumblr, etc.). DNWs are things you don't want to receive under any circumstances. Please do not use these to try and box your creator in - for example, you may DNW ships or tropes you do not like, but don't DNW "anything except ship XY" or "anything except porn", as these DNWs aim to force the creator to produce Ship XY and porn respectively.
  • Please include prompts with your sign-up - these can be done using your description box, or by linking a letter (linked letters should be complete before sign-ups end, mods will not be enforcing their contents). Prompts are things you would like to see and can be really helpful to your creator or to an emergency pinch hitter, and if they catch someone's eye, they can increase the odds of getting a treat. Creators are not forced to follow those prompts but can use them if they so choose.

Offers

  • Each offer must contain a minimum of two characters and one medium. (fic and/or art)
  • You may offer all characters within the tagset, but be sure you really mean all.
  • Each offer must contain a different combination of characters. (e.g. Request 1 is Sasha Rackett, Zolf Smith. Request 2 is Sasha Rackett, Azu. Request 3 is Azu, Zolf Smith). You can also choose to select Any. This does not mean that you have to create something containing all characters in the tagset, but that you can be matched to any other sign-up, and are then obliged to create something for the requested characters it contains, whoever they may be.
  • You can specify whether you would like to create fanfic, fanart or either. You are not required to create both.

Matching and Assignments

  • Matching will be done on two characters and one medium: You will be matched with someone who has requested the same medium you were offering, and two of the characters you were offering.
  • You can create for any character or character combination your requester asked for, not just the one you were matched to.
  • You can create something based on your requester’s prompts, but are not required to.
  • You must respect your requester’s DNWs.
  • If you are under 18, please do not create works which would have a Mature or Explicit rating.
  • We will endeavour to get your assignments out as soon after sign-ups close as possible - once they're complete, you will receive an email containing your assignment, and be able to view it through your AO3 account.
  • If there is an issue with your assignment, such as it not matching your offers, please contact the mods.
  • If no requests match your offers, you will be contacted to see if there's anything else you're willing to offer. If there is no response within 24 hours, we will remove your sign-up.
  • If no offers match your requests, you will go out as a pinch-hit.

Posting

  • Once your fanwork is complete, post it to the collection by navigating to your dashboard, selecting Assignments, and choosing the option to fulfil.
  • Your work must be new, stand-alone, and complete - first chapters of multichapter works or installments in ongoing series will not be accepted.
  • If you require an extension, please contact the mods, though we do not guarantee that one will be granted.
  • The works will be hidden until reveals on December 21st - you can edit during the unrevealed period.
  • Works will remain anonymous for one week - please don’t post your work elsewhere before creator reveals, as this will de-anon you.

Minimum Requirements

  • The minimum requirements for this exchange are:
For fanfic: minimum of 500 words
For fanart: minimum is a cleaned-up sketch on unlined paper.
  • Please be sure to publish your work to the collection before the deadline - a saved draft will not count.

Defaulting

  • To default, go to your dashboard, click Assignments, locate your assignment, and click Default.
  • If you cannot complete your assignment, please default as soon as possible, so that we have time to find a pinch-hitter for your recipient.
  • If you fail to upload your assignment before the deadline and also fail to contact the mods about it, you will be considered to have defaulted, and your participation will not be accepted in next year’s event.
  • If you default, you are likely to still receive a gift. However, if the person assigned to you also defaults, we can’t guarantee you a pinch-hit.

Pinch-Hitting

  • If a participant cannot be matched or is defaulted on, their sign-up will be posted here and to our tumblr, and claimed by a volunteer.
  • To claim a pinch-hit, please contact the mods with your AO3 username, and we will assign you to it.

Treats

  • If there are requests in the exchange that you like the look of aside from your assignment, you may create extra works for these people, though please do prioritise your assignment.
  • If you create something which veers away from the prompts you are using, or are creating something using the prompts from our tumblr, you can also gift it to the collection with no recipient.
  • To post a treat, please choose the Post to Collection option from our main page - you will need to type the recipient's name in under Associations, be sure to check this carefully.
  • Treats need not be in before the assignment deadline - the collection will remain open for treats until nominations open for next year’s event, if it runs again.
  • You are welcome to treat even if you are not signed up for the exchange.
  • Treats can be of any length and in any format.

If you have any further questions, we can be contacted here and at our tumblr, and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Rules:

  • Do not create a work containing something your recipient has DNW-ed. If you would like clarification on a DNW, please contact the mods - we will contact your recipient on your behalf.
  • If you are under 18, please do not request or produce works which would have a Mature or Explicit rating. While we do allow works with these ratings in the collection, please keep in mind that we may have minors participating, and tag clearly. If you aren't sure whether your recipient is over 18 and would like works of higher ratings, please reach out to the mods, and we will ask for you.
  • Please do not directly contact your recipient, attempt to discover the identity of your creator, publicly discuss what you're creating in any great detail, or carry out any other action which may lead to your identity being revealed while the collection is still anonymous.
  • The mods reserve the right to ban people for inappropriate actions such as insulting behaviour towards other participants.
  • Defaulting will not carry consequences except in the circumstances outlined above, but please be considerate to your mods and default as soon as possible if it becomes clear to you you won't be able to complete your assignment.
  • This will not be enforced by the mods, but we encourage you to comment on your gift and thank your creator.
